CHOIR FESTIVAL
METRORAIL
The Metro Rail Choral Festival was established to create a platform for community choirs which included participation from Metro Rail staff members. This competition served to build a repertoire and gain confidence within their respective units. We were contracted by Kopano to manage and stage all elements including design and all creative applications. Dandelion Breeze handled the marketing and through the line elements for the first ever Metro Rail Choral Festival at the Artscape Theatre in Cape Town. It was wellreceived by all those who participated in the event. The second year saw it being located in Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape. Metro Rail appointed us to manage the entire campaign including all elements from the initial conceptualisation, creation of the corporate ID, application of all the print elements and going to market (implementation). The Port Elizabeth leg of the Choral Festival was such a huge success that the result was both functions hosted being attended by participants, media and the Metro Rail stakeholders totalling in excess of 5000 people per event. As part of the creative concept, traditional and cultural dancers were creatively brought into the production to create cohesion with the choirs and to stamp the African heritage of choral music and dance.
The process of finding the choir participants included a series of regional competitions which included national auditions. The top five of the best choirs selected nationally were then selected for an opportunity to showcase their vocal talents in choral splendour at the final event which coincided with national Transport Month. Choir enthusiasts witnessed a real treat from the talent of these very diverse choirs who were testimony to the tremendous talent there is to celebrate in South Africa.
